Legend of Cambria
Mission: To design the 3 main legendary creatures within the world of Cambria.
Narrated by actor Colin Farrell and directed by Alexei Tylevich, Legend of Cambria is a film about a betrayal within the classic Welsh kingdom.
Set in otherworldly Celtic landscapes, the film draws you into an allegory of Cambria’s heritage that inspire their counter designs. I was brought in to design the mythical creatures and was deeply impressed when I saw the outcome, especially since it’s literally a 42 minute film about the stone of their kitchen counters—that’s one hell of a campaign!
The commercial premiered during ABC's Oscars Opening Ceremony.

Behind The Scenes
Fascinating video documenting the making of Legend of Cambria. The practical effects used were very impressive.

Y Ddraig Goch Also known as the “Red Dragon”, was derived from the Great Red Serpent that had represented the Welsh god Dewi.

Designing The Red Dragon Design considerations for the head, gestures, poses, and overall form-language of the dragon. I actually had to act out a few poses myself.

The Kelpie A shape-shifting water spirit inhabiting the lochs and pools of Scotland. Kelpies have the ability to transform themselves into non-equine forms, and can take on the outward appearance of human figures.

Designing The Kelpie Similar process to exploring Y Draig Goch. I draw a lot of inspiration from science and from observing biomimicry.

The Stone Giants I wanted to approach these a little differently. Being that they are entities formed from the very earth they live in, I wanted to embrace the natural formation of rocks — as opposed to the traditional humanoid golems.

Designing The Stone Giants Sometimes I use silhouettes to check the design and visual read of objects, characters, and props.
